Thursday, February 13th was an eventful day at the CAC.C. As we prepare for the next project presentation to the city, we are further honing in our design through sketches, study models, and a lot of discussion. Prior to Community 1:1’s final book club for the Speed of Trust, all of the A+cB students met and had an in depth design discussion regarding a floor plan design to move forward with. The discussion was positive, and led us in the right direction to finalize design by the end of the weekend.
Community 1:1 met at 3:30 in the cigar factory this week. The topic of discussion for this week’s class was the final 3 waves, (roughly 100 pages) of the speed of trust. We split up into small groups of 3 and spread out across the cigar factory to discuss the chapters and how we can relate what was written to our daily lives. I was paired with Lauren and Hunter this week. Our discussion was fruitful, and gave me insight into the book that I had not considered before. After we met back up as a class, we had a funny moment where David asked us to go around and talk about the worst job we have ever worked. Some students shared funny stories, others mentioned work environments that were fairly concerning. Overall class was successful and I look forward to starting my next book for the class!
Thursday evening, the CAC.C hosted an event from main campus where important members of the university came down to visit the center and learn about what we do as architecture students. After a welcoming convocation in the forum, a few students from each program guided a tour to show the guests how we operate within the cigar factory. Hunter, Thomas, and Reagan offered to be representatives of our studio and walked the guests through our corner of the floor. Since I was working late that evening, I offered to be their prop and helped each of them with explaining our project and answering any questions that the guests had.
