It’s not often we get a spa day in studio. Unfortunately for us though, this spa wasn’t for us but for our feet. And not our literal feet, but for the structural steel feet that will be supporting our entire pavilion. Now that the concrete has been poured and the chimney is well on its way up, we were able to start crafting the steel feet that will anchor the structure securely to its foundation. Here’s the rundown on how we are preparing the feet to be fabricated and bolted into the concrete:
We started with steel pieces delivered by the fabricator that were cut and drilled. The process of turning these into usable steel feet required Rustin, Jared, and Britton to weld and grind. Once the welding and grinding were complete, it was time to clean. Simple Green became our best friend, effectively cutting through oil and grime to prepare the feet for the next steps. Each piece got a thorough scrub, ensuring a clean surface for the next stage of treatment. Next came the Ospho treatment which is a critical step in preventing rust. Ospho removes existing oxidation and also provides a layer of protection against future corrosion. We sprayed the Ospho evenly across each steel foot and allowed it to dry for 24 hours. Spraying the Ospho is where we ended the studio day yesterday. Once it dries, we will give the feet a final wipe-down with mineral spirits. Following that, we’ll be ready for the best part, painting and priming and installation. I can’t wait to see these pretty feet in the ground soon!
