Good morning and Happy Monday!
Most of our class spent the weekend working on site, and in the shop. We are finishing the groundwork surrounding our site, and working on welding and staining purlins. I am pretty exhausted and I would say most of my classmates are too. Everyday we are diving into hours of hard work, but it has been extremely rewarding. Each of my classmates brings something unique and special to our studio which makes everyday inspiring and exciting. Positive attitudes, great work ethics, and knowledge and ideas that all contribute to create a positive studio environment. It inspires me to see my other classmates working hard through long days.
This past Friday, Rickey, our mason, started working on our fireplace. Being a mason is hard hard work which requires lots of patience, knowledge and strength. I have really enjoyed watching Rickey work and learning from him. On Friday he let me lay one of the bricks, it looked okay to me but with all of his experience it was off and not right. Rickey humorously had to relay that brick because my placement was poor. That little exchange has been making me laugh and has been keeping me humble. Later on Friday, Rickey kindly fried us up some local fresh shrimp, fish and oysters. The seafood was so good and it was so thoughtful of Rickey to share his seafood with us. It was definitely a top moment of this whole experience getting to eat local seafood on site with my classmates.
This semester is flying by which brings a mixture of emotions, both excitement and nerves. Many students and adults may find the holidays and the semester end coming as a relief, but its daunting to think about balancing my schoolwork and getting the pavilion done by the end of the semester. We are in our last days of our internships and I am trying to soak all of these experiences up while taking care of myself and planning ahead, while taking necessary time to rest and play.
Photography is definitely a creative outlet for me and capturing candid moments on site has been really fun for me. I love documenting our journey and showcasing what we are doing through photos. Below I’ll share some of my favorites!
