Teeing Off My Golf Career

Welcome back to the blog after spring break! Today is our first day back in studio after the break and I am excited to hear about what my classmates did! We have been working really hard this semester and for me personally it was really nice to have a little break. Today our group design portion of the project will begin and we will be grouped together in groups of 3 to create a pavilion design! Our review last week went really well. I was personally so amazed at all of the individual designs that were presented and learned so much from every classmate’s design. I am so confident our pavilion will have an amazing design.

Last time I wrote a blog post, unfortunately I broke my laptop the same day. I am happy to report that I have my laptop back and its working normally. I had it repaired wooo!! The estimates I was given were 2 months but it actually just took a week! Woo! Yay!

This morning I did something that really took me out of my comfort zone but it was really fun! I have an internship in the mornings with Thomas & Denzinger, and a couple of weeks ago my bosses reached out and invited me to a golf tournament. I assumed that we were going to go hang out and watch pro-golfers while we talked and socialized. BUT this morning when I showed up I was really confused when I realized that we were the one’s playing the tournament and not watching! I showed up in jeans haha. My mentor is recovering from ankle surgery, so I was there with my other bosses James and Cassie!

At first I was very nervous because I have no idea how to swing a golf club at all. (But over spring break I went mini golfing with my boyfriend so I felt like 2% prepared for the tournament). My first swing was in front of a group of 10 men who have golfed their whole lives it was quite embarrassing. Honestly though, 2 hours in I had a great time and was really  having fun swinging and trying to hit the ball and not the grass. I actually popped one golf ball in the air!

Trying new things (especially in front of experts and others) is sometimes scary but I think it’s important to not be hard on yourself, try your best, and not be embarrassed when you fail. I had a great time today and hoping I can play golf again and take some lessons! Thank you Cassie and James for inviting me out today and explaining and teaching me some golf!
