On Monday, it was the perfect afternoon to head back down to Wadmalaw Island to present our small group designs boards & models to the teachers, faculty & students of Fredith L. Frierson Elementary School.
It was a unique privilege and opportunity to be able to communicate our ideas to the school’s fourth and fifth graders who first shared their own ideas with us about what they envisioned their outdoor Montessori pavilion could look like. After offering some design “critique” we presented our initial concepts to both the kids and adults. It was awesome to see them interact with the models and have the chance to ask us questions. Afterwords, we taped up our boards in the commons space next to the sim[PLY] shelter, and strolled across the school grounds to our site. It was neat to be able to accurately orient our physical models in order to see how the sun + shadows interacted.
After some additional requests & input from faculty regarding the designs, today we internally discussed takeaways from each group’s work, and are forming new teams for further studio research to share on Friday. Stay tuned 👍
