On Sunday afternoon, several members of the Architecture+communityBUILD team assembled a small-scale plywood structure that a past studio utilized for communicating Architectural elements to elementary schoolchildren.
The structure was erected without any power tools thanks to the innovative plywood system, sim[PLY], which was invented over four years ago by Clemson Architecture faculty & students. Sim[PLY] uses locally sourced plywood and CNC fabrication. The cut pieces interlock from a tab-and-slot connection system with additional zip tie reinforcement.
Our Studio hopes to use this fun & quick woodworking joinery construction method as an interactive hands-on Architecture lesson with local Montessori school, Edith L. Frierson Elementary.
