This week we are busy calculating material quantities so we can begin to purchase the major components of the structure. Big ticket items include concrete, rebar, wood framing, and fasteners. Utilizing 3D modeling we are able to accurately estimate material volumes, areas, and lengths.
We are also parsing out the columns and rafters to create shop drawings. These drawings are very detailed and provide all the information we will need to cut the wood down to size. Think of these drawings as the IKEA furniture directions. The time for the theoretical is finished and it’s time to get down on paper everything we’ve been discussing, right down to the nuts and bolts.
If all goes according to plan, we will be digging out our foundation and placing rebar this week for a concrete slab pour on Monday next week.
