“I love the winning, I can take the losing, but most of all I Love to play”. – Boris Becker
My soccer coach in high school said this quote once and it has always stuck with me. My guess is he used it to keep the team enthusiastic about the “game” after a string of losses had us all a bit discouraged. I don’t play soccer anymore, but I am lucky to have a job that I love to play. I get to be creative, work with enthusiastic students, and make unusual and experimental things every day. We sketch, make models, have interesting conversation, problem solve, research, and sometimes eat cookies. The hardest part of my job is to not let on as to how much fun I am having. I learn something everyday with the students, because their approach to design is uncluttered with the notion of “That can’t be done”. This fact was intuitively perceived by the Post and Courier writer Adam Parker in a couple of interviews the director Ray Huff and I had with him last week for an article he wrote about the CAC.C in Saturday’s paper. Here is the link. We are really excited about the exposure, and know that the expectations are high for what we are working on this semester
Monday we are having a review of three options for our addition to the Corrine Jones playground. It is necessary that out of this review we choose one scheme, and work together as a whole studio to make it as good as it can be. This won’t be an easy decision as all three schemes are already exciting prospects. This is why we play the game, and it’s just about to get really fun.
