Community 1:1 – REDUX Wall Close to Completion | Out of Architecture Part 2

Thursday, April 3rd was a day full of Community 1:1 activities. As I was finishing up my office work for the week, I received a call from David. “Do you want the good news or the bad news first?” he asks. Not having a clue of what he is referring to, I ask for the bad news. Unfortunately, it seems a floor flange piece I was working with in the metal shop the night before mysteriously tried to thread itself onto a pipe and broke. After a quick trip to Home Depot and some time in the shop, all materials were ready for their final finish work before construction on site at Redux!

Book Club met today at Island Cabana Bar behind Morrison Yards. Even as a Charleston native, I had never been to this spot before. Discussion today was focused around Part 2 of Out of Architecture. The class broke into two small groups to give our opinions on the reading and converse with each other on how we can relate to the stories being told. Interestingly, our small group had drastically differing opinions on the reading. This lead to very interesting conversation that lasted a lot longer than it should have, as we ran out of time to talk about the rest of the chapter.

After class, I went back to the shop to finalize applying a primer finish to the faces of the plywood in preparation of site construction coming next week. I was the only one in the shop, so no one had the chance to complain about my music choice tonight! Everything went smoothly, and I’m looking forward to the next phase of the project!
