All week we have been hard at work putting together some structural drawings to send to the structural engineer who is helping us to make sure our pavilion will be structurally sound. We have been working to finalize all logistics in terms of how the structure goes together.
I have been working with Clay and Caroline this week to figure out the column and rafter connections. Our columns are made up of a sandwiching system. At the base of the column a rectangular steel tube gets sandwiched by 2 pieces of pressure treated 3×6 lumber. At the top of the column the same sandwiching occurs except the steel tube is substituted for another piece of pressure treated wood. The rafters also connect to the columns with that same sandwiching concept.

Others have been working on other parts of the project. Some have been working on finalizing the design of the fire place. This fire place will be made of structure CMU with a brick exterior and final decisions are still being made on whether stucco will also be incorporated or not. Others have been working on a brick patterning for the border of the concrete slab.
