Last Thursday a Community Build partner, The Green Heart Project, had their Harvest Dinner hosted at the William Enston Home. ⁣

Home of their urban garden and farm stand, that our fall of 2019 class designed and built.⁣
⁣
What a beautiful thing to see the work produced from this program being a genuine place for the community in it’s entirety. A place of gathering, growth, and positivity.⁣

Yesterday we were trying to beat the clock!
We had incoming bad weather so we worked hard and fast in the morning to get the ridge beam and some of the rafters up!

Thanks to Grandscapes, we were also able to use the skid steerer to start making a path for the concrete that will be poured later this week!

Only 5 days left!

With one week left we are hopeful to finish!

We started creating the railing frames on site, but a group of us will finish the railings in the shop.

While some of us were focused on the railings, others worked on framing the roof! We got the beams up and now we will work to get the ridge beam up!

Progress report! 🚨

Over the past couple of days we have accomplished a lot! We finished the foot bridge and decking the main bridge. We also started working on railings and started preparing for the roof!

Today we are thanking BluTide Marine Construction Co. for the immense generosity they provided to us by driving the piers that got the construction of the project started. Without them, we would not have a bridge at all!

We would like to thank Sandy Peabody from Peabody

We would like to thank Sandy Peabody from Peabody and Associates for their time and labor. They provided us with a site survey of the pond and they helped us determine the appropriate calculations for the ramp and bridge across the pond. They also spent the time teaching us how the equipment works!

We would like to use this week to express our grat

We would like to use this week to express our gratitude towards the various businesses and organizations that have helped us turn this project from an idea, into a reality.

To begin, we would like to thank the Charleston Parks Department, and the Charleston Parks Conservancy. Both of the organizations have been deeply engrained with the project from the start. They joined us in community conversations, helping with project logistics, and provided us the location along the West Ashley Bikeway for us to build at.

A special thanks goes out to the community members of West Ashley, whose generous donations helped to fund the materials used for the project.

Moving forward! We have almost finalized our desig

Moving forward! We have almost finalized our design which means we move on to the next step!

Our class met with structural engineer, John Moore, on Wednesday. His input was very helpful in progressing our design. Today we will be working on improving the structure and finalizing our design before we head off for spring break!

Last week we spent the day at the site with the SC licensed surveyor, Sandy Peabody! We enjoyed learning about how surveying is done and how the equipment is used! Thanks to Peabody & Associates we will have a more accurate representation of our site’s topography!
