Located in Singleton Park, in Charleston, this project sought to enhance neighborhood amenities and create community space in the park that responds to the community’s needs. The project was done in close communication with the community, involving presentations with the Parks Conservancy, the Green Heart Project, and the City of Charleston to gather feedback and input throughout the design process.
This pavilion project supports a local community garden, in addition to functioning as a covered gathering space. This structure used concrete, wood construction, and metal structural elements in its construction. It holds a classroom space, moving walls, murals, storage, and serves the community garden. This pavilion also has built-in seating, which frames the pavilion and people’s interactions with it. All of these amenities combine to create recreational, educational, and social opportunities for the community. This pavilion is a successful project, as it is frequently used by people in the area, and is located in a park space that is very popular within the neighborhood.
